Residence Life: A Sense of Belonging

2008 Staff

Community. Laughter. Growth. Cooperation. All of these things are part of residence life at Marietta, and all of them contribute much to your overall college experience.

You'll feel a sense of belonging as soon as you claim your room keys and decorate your walls. Let's face it, there's something about "close quarters" that easily translates to close friendships! Those friends may be your roommates, or other members of your residence hall, male or female, who serve as your first friends when you arrive on campus as a new student. It's a special bond that grows over time, even as you move out and move on.

Because we believe in the value of residence living, we require full-time students to live on campus (or in campus-related housing). But "require" is a loose term—once you discover all the great things about living in a community with your fellow students, we think you'll agree it's a really good arrangement.

RA Shout Out

This month’s RA Shout Out goes to Britanny Saunier who is overseas for an internship with British Parliament. She works for Bill Rammell MP (Labour Party). He is also the Minister of Innovation, Universities, and Skills. She is working part-time at the office in West Minster. According to Britanny she is doing “basic organizing tasks, such as data input, sorting mail, sending emails, calling supporters.” Half of the time and the other half is spent “traveling an 1 1/2 hr, one way, to Bill's constituency office in Harlow. There I do basic campaign work such as stuffing envelopes, organizing constituent letters, minor case work, and data entry. I have recently been assigned the task of organizing and analyzing the data that is being collected from a survey on traffic congestion.” The findings (if in Bill's favor) will be used to present a case to the Harlow Council for funding for a road project to ease the congestion. Outside of her internship which is 3 days a week from 10am to 5:30pm, she has two classes on Mondays. She has recently booked trips to the Isle of Wight, Amsterdam and Ireland. Britanny hopes to get to Scotland, Wales, and Rome before her time in London is over. She spends most of her time wandering London and admiring its architecture and of course dancing. “Got to love the music here!”
