Visiting John Carroll downs Marietta women 89-62
Carraher nets game-high 20 points in loss to Blue Streaks

MARIETTA, Ohio — The fast paced offense of the visiting John Carroll University Blue Streaks proved to be too much for the Marietta College women's basketball team, as it fell 89-62 on Saturday (Feb. 14) afternoon. The loss dropped the Pioneers' record to 2-21 overall and 0-16 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). John Carroll improved to 13-10 overall and 8-8 in the OAC.

Senior guard Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) drained a three-pointer at the 15:38 mark of the first half to give the Lady Pioneers a slim lead, 9-8. The Blue Streaks responded by going on a 14-0 run over the next four and one-half minutes to lead, 22-9, with 11:15 to play until intermission. Marietta was held scoreless over the last 7:35 of the first half and went into the locker room trailing 50-20. The Pioneers outscored the Blue Streaks 39-37 in the second half but John Carroll rolled to the 89-62 victory.

Carraher led all players with 20 points, four rebounds and three assists. Freshman Rachel Jones (Dublin/Coffman) netted a career-high 17 points in the loss. In addition, freshman post Chelsea Drake (Georgetown) scored 13 points and collected five rebounds.

Erin Zahariev came off the bench to lead the Blue Streaks with 14 points. Whitney Hamilton scored 12 points, while Caitlin Sureck netted nine points and collected a game-high nine rebounds.

Marietta finished 22-of-57 (.386) from the field, 5-of-19 (.263) from three-point range and 13-of-18 (.722) from the free throw line. John Carroll went 36-of-70 (.514) from the field, 4-of-17 (.235) from behind the arc and 13-of-17 (.765) from the free throw line. The Blue Streaks out-rebounded the Pioneers, 45-31, and committed 13 turnovers to Marietta's 18.

The Pioneers are back in action Wednesday (Feb. 18) night as they will travel to Mount Union College for a tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
