MARIETTA, Ohio — Cold shooting and turnovers plagued the Marietta College women’s basketball team in a 60-22 loss to visiting Capital University on Wednesday (Feb. 4) night at Ban Johnson Arena.

The Pioneers (2-18, 0-13 OAC) converted just 10-of-49 (.204) field goal attempts, committed 21 turnovers and scored a season-low 22 points against the first place Crusaders (14-4, 11-2 OAC). Marietta also failed to convert from three-point range (0-of-15) for the first time this season. The Lady Pioneers also finished 2-of-7 (.286) from the free throw line in the loss.

Junior post Jamie Beckett (Wooster/Triway) led the Pioneers with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Senior guard Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) chipped in with seven rebounds on the night.

Heather McAlpin led the Crusaders with 16 points and nine rebounds. Daniele Sanna added 14 points to go along with five rebounds in the victory.

Capital, who led 28-7 at the half, shot 25-of-65 (.385) from the field, 0-of-8 (.000) from behind the arc and 10-of-11 (.909) from the free throw line. The Crusaders out-rebounded the Pioneers, 47-34, and committed nine turnovers to Marietta’s 21.
