Marietta ends first half of OAC schedule with road loss at Baldwin-Wallace
Pioneers return to action on Saturday against Ohio Northern

BEREA, Ohio — The Marietta College women’s basketball team could not overcome a strong Baldwin-Wallace College performance as it fell 74-39 on the road Saturday (Jan.17) afternoon. The loss dropped Marietta’s record to 2-14 overall and 0-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Baldwin-Wallace improved to 11-5 overall and 6-3 in the OAC.
Marietta's only lead came after freshman wing Brooke Baker (Wheelersburg) scored the opening bucket to give her squad a 2-0 lead. Baldwin-Wallace scored the next 12 points to take control of the game the rest of the way. The Yellow Jackets held a 35-17 advantage at intermission before cruising to the 35-point win.
Senior guard Nikki Driscoll (Bellaire) led the Pioneers with 10 points. Junior post Jamie Beckett (Wooster/Triway) added nine points and freshman wing Brooke Baker (Wheelersburg) contributed eight points. Four different Pioneers had four rebounds on the day.
Amanda Schroeder paced the Yellow Jackets with 15 points. Mariah Strayer scored 12 points and collected a game-high nine rebounds in the win.
Marietta shot 14-of-50 (.280) from the field, 2-of-10 (.200) from three-point range and 9-of-12 (.750) from the free throw line. Baldwin-Wallace finished the game 28-of-57 (.491) from the field, 6-of-13 (.462) from behind the arc and 12-of-26 (.462) from the free throw line. The Yellow Jackets out-rebounded Marietta, 47-28, and committed 11 turnovers to Marietta's 17.
The Pioneers have a week to prepare for their next contest, which is at home against Ohio Northern on Saturday (Jan. 24) afternoon. Tip-off at Fenton Court is 3 p.m. |
