Marietta College Marietta College

The Marietta Fund, Pioneer Club and Matching Gifts

As we begin the start of another academic year, it is natural to reflect on the connections among the people of Marietta College and the impact of the Long Blue Line on the present and future.

As a member of the College community, you are connected to…

  • Lauren Yanko '11 is recognized with a Charles J. Ping Student Service Award for her volunteer work with American Red Cross, Washington County Humane Society, O'Neill Senior Center and the local Secret Santa program.
  • Dr. Sandra Kolankiewicz, Director of Gender Studies, wins two separate literary competitions—Fall 2007 Black River Chapbook Competition and the 2008 Hackney Literary Awards.
  • A group of six Marietta students win the annual Tri-State psychology conference Jeopardy! Tournament.
  • Men's soccer secures its first Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament berth in 10 years with a 2-1 double overtime victory over John Carroll.
  • Faculty members Dr. Mark Bagshaw and Dr. Luding Tong present scholarly work at the prestigious University of Richmond's Jepson Summer Institute for Leadership and the Liberal Arts.
  • Scott Burnham '11 is honored as a National Champion in forensics after placing first in the Informative Speaking category, which featured more than 500 competitors.
  • Harrison Potter '08 is named one of the top 500 mathematical college students in U.S. after his performance in the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition.

Through your generosity, current students and faculty are able to achieve their dreams. I thank you for your connection to Marietta College today, and I ask that you join me in supporting the Marietta Fund.

The goal for the Marietta Fund for 2008-09 is $1.6 million. Your gift will be especially important to increase the College’s ability to:

  • Provide financial aid to attract and retain the best and brightest students.
  • Nurture our students' desire to learn through internships, study abroad, research experiences and other special programs.
  • Support a talented and engaged faculty.
  • Make sophisticated technology available for student learning and communications.

Please accept my invitation to support Marietta College students and faculty today and to enhance the quality of the College that means so much to all of us.

Jean A. Scott, President

Pioneer Club

The Pioneer Club is a component of the Marietta Fund providing unrestricted dollars to the athletic department. Donors who wish to contribute to Marietta College's Department of Athletics are being asked to direct their gifts through the Pioneer Club.

Donors will be recognized for their gifts through special invitations to events, email updates, two special Pioneer Club newsletters and more.

The Pioneer Club is comprised of alumni, parents, friends, faculty and staff who desire to support all of Marietta's varsity sports—18 Sports, 1 Team.

Marietta's coaches, along with the guidance of the Director of Athletics, have developed a list of priorities that will be funded by the unrestricted dollars received through the Pioneer Club.

If you are interested in designating your gift to a specific sport, you can still do this through the Pioneer Club. When you make your gift just specify which sport you would like it to be directed to.

For more information on the Pioneer Club or if you are interested in making a donation, email Debbie Lazorik at
lazorikd@marietta.edu or call 1-800-274-4704.
